Sherman Health nutrition programs

Sherman Health will provide a variety of nutrition programs in 2009 to help those in the community who have New Year's resolutions to eat better and maintain healthier lifestyles. All Sherman Health nutrition programs feature registered dietitians and are free.

Healthy Eating Survival Skills for 2009: Learn about fad diets, weight loss strategies, and how to stick to a New Year's resolution to eat better. The program includes shopping and cooking tips, as well as quick and healthy recipes. It will be offered from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Jan. 14 at Sherman Hospital; and 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20 at The Centre of Elgin.

Eating the Mediterranean Way: Discover what a Mediterranean-style diet is and the health benefits it offers. Learn how to make Mediterranean choices at home or while eating out from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Feb. 4 at Sherman Hospital; 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 12 at Sherman Hospital; and 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 22 at The Centre of Elgin.

Healthy Parents Healthy Kids: A seminar targeted for parents of overweight children. Learn techniques to keep your kids healthy and tips for managing your child's weight from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3 at the Centre of Elgin; and 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 8 at Sherman Hospital.

Eating Out the Healthy Way: Bring menus from your favorite restaurants and a registered dietitian will help you decide which items to choose for a healthy eating experience outside your home. If you don't have menus, don't worry, there will be menus provided for analysis and discussion. It will be offered from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Feb. 11 at Sherman Hospital; and 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 11 at The Centre of Elgin.
