• Mary Scotillo, daughter of John and Nancy Scotillo of Barrington was honored recently for academic achievement during Monmouth College's annual Honors Convocation. The sophomore education major was awarded the Olive Barrett memorial scholarship and nominated for the honors program. Final selection for the program was made at the end of the spring semester. She was also inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta for earning a 3.5 GPA during her first academic year.

• Tom Nagawiecki, son of Mark and Ann Nagawiecki of Barrington was honored recently for academic achievement during Monmouth College's annual Honors Convocation. The senior biology/environmental science major received the environmental science award for outstanding work in the program and the Rosanne Webster Graham prize in creative writing. He also received the Tri-Beta award, given to the senior with the highest GPA in the biology department and nominated for the honors program. Final selection for the program was made at the end of the spring semester. Additionally, he was recognized as a member of Omicron Mu, an upper-class scholastic fraternity for students who maintain a 3.615 GPA or higher.

• Jessica Hunter Pearce of Schaumburg, the daughter of Paul and Susan Pearce, a sophomore music performance major at Illinois Wesleyan University, has been elected President of the Sigma Alpha chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity for Women for 2007-08.

A 2005 graduate of Schaumburg High School, where she was honored with the top music department award, belonged to the National Honor Society and was a National Merit Scholarship commendee, and is the principal French horn of the IWU Civic Orchestra and IWU Wind Ensemble. At IWU, she has been named to the dean's list every semester and is an Illinois State Scholar.

• Alexandra Michelle Kruzel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell J. Kruzel of Arlington Heights, was named to the spring 2007 dean's list at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn. for receiving at least a 3.5 grade point average. She is a student in the College of Arts and Sciences.

• Adam M. Barnum, son of Frederick and Katherine Barnum of Arlington Heights, is the recipient of an Academic Scholarship to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale for the 2008 fall semester. where he plans to He plans to study architectural studies. The Provost Scholarship Award is valued at $8,000.

Barnum, a senior at Palatine High School, participates in a variety of extracurricular activities including volleyball, and CAD club.

• Sherrie Dubinski of Arlington Heights, a freshman at Lake Forest College, received a Deerpath Academic Scholarship and Carnegie Writing Scholarship. The Deerpath scholarships are awarded to students with strong records of achievement in a challenging program of study. The Carnegie Writing Scholarship is a Forester Scholarship given to students who have demonstrated special ability in and dedication to art, foreign language, leadership, music, theater, writing, or science (including the natural, mathematical and computer sciences).

Dubinski is a graduate of John Hersey High School.

• Jill E. Placek, daughter of John and Jennifer Placek of Arlington Heights, received a bachelor's degree with honors in June 2007 from Northwestern University, Evanston. She majored in communication sciences and disorders with a minor in Spanish. Placek, a 2003 graduate of Rolling Meadows High School, is now attending medical school.
