Scouting Glenbard North boys basketball

Glenbard North

Coach: Joe Larson.

Last year: 12-14, 5-9, sixth in DuPage Valley Conference; lost 80-70 to Benet in Class 4A Geneva regional semifinals.

Top players: Josh Fleming, jr., F; Anthony Keener, sr., G; Brandon Clark, sr., F; Alex Smith, sr., G; Matt Pemberton, sr., F; Sean Fogarty, sr., G; Mark Ng, sr., G; Andrew Bergmann, sr., F; Ryan Krueger, jr., F; Troy Jackson, jr., G; Phil Jackson, jr., G; Robin Paye, jr., G.

Scouting report: The Panthers are banking on the talent of seven three-sport athletes as they try to overcome the graduation of three-year starter James Fleming, who averaged 20 points last year. Keener, a strong perimeter shooter, 6-foot-5 Josh Fleming, Smith and Clark combined to average 22 points, and each will be relied upon to contribute points in different ways. Clark, 6-8 Pemberton and 6-8 Krueger provide more depth in the post compared to last year, while Smith returns as a top-notch defender. They’ll all figure into a unit that must rebound better than a year ago. “We’ll spread out the offense a little bit more this year, and that could be a good thing,” Larson said.
