Addison Trail finds source of water contamination

Officials at Addison Trail High School said they discovered the source of water contamination that closed the school for part of Tuesday and all day Wednesday.

DuPage High School District 88 worked in coordination with Bovis Lend Lease Construction Management, the village of Addison, an industrial hygienist and other contracted plumbers to find a breach in the water system that originated when a check valve failed during a refill of the heating system.

The breach caused a backup into the freshwater source in an area of the building near the field house.

Tests revealed trace elements of gycol. Water lines have been flushed and further tests will be conducted, officials said.

The DuPage County Health Department allowed the school to open Thursday, with students using only bottled water and hand sanitizers; cooking with tap water was prohibited.
