Fundraiser for Welzien:An island-style fundraiser to benefit Bob Welzien will take place starting at 6 p.m. Saturday at the West Dundee VFW, 117 S. First St. The party, dubbed "Bob's Margaritaville Blowout" will help the Welzien family pay medical bills for Bob, 39, of West Dundee, who was recently diagnosed with leukemia and lymphoma. Part of the proceeds will also help family replace the roof on their house. A $15 donation at the door includes food and one drink. Auction and raffle items will be available. DJ's Franz and Laura will provide the music.D300 supports cancer research:Participants in Community Unit District 300's second annual Relay For Life raised more than $83,000 for cancer research. More than 850 students, parents, staff and residents participated in the June event at Hampshire High School. There were 85 teams this year. Seven of them managed to raise more than $2,000 each. District 300 plans to hold next year's relay at Dundee-Crown High School.Live music in Algonquin:Starting in July, music fans will be treated to free, live music at Riverfront Park on Thursday nights, once the Farmers Market closes for the day. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. on July 15 and last through Aug. 19.
