Mundelein still perfect in NSC

Mundelein's boys volleyball remained undefeated in the North Suburban Conference on Tuesday night by downing host Lakes 25-20, 25-15.

Brian Chin led Mundelein (24-2, 7-0) with 7 kills on 10-of-11 hitting, while Patrick Lentz added 5 kills and 4 blocks.

The Mustangs received 4 kills apiece from Mitchell Baumgartner and Connor Johnson. Baumgartner added 3 blocks and 2 aces. Chris Kelly was 15-of-16 digging, and Andrew Roscoe set 51 of 52 with 21 assists.

Lakes setter Mark Molloy dished out 11 assists, with John Sieracke (4 kills) and Matt Duff (3) leading the Eagles' attack. Ben Pierce had 12 digs, and Matt Lewis posted 4 blocks.

"We played some of our best volleyball of the season," Lakes coach Wayne Schultz said. "Our team defense was the best it has been all year. Mundelein is an outstanding team."

Vernon Hills d. North Chicago: Pat Stone delivered 5 kills and had 2 blocks for the Cougars in their 25-8, 25-5 win that hiked their record to 19-1 overall and 6-0 in the North Suburban Conference.

Vernon Hills received 3 kills apiece from Robin Moy, Spencer Raak and Ryan Steeno. Andrew Welter lofted 11 assists on 19-of-20 setting.

Notre Dame d. Carmel: The Corsairs dropped the East Suburban Catholic Conference match 25-20, 17-25, 25-17, despite 10 kills apiece from Jake Wolfe and Alex Spike.

Kevin Kneeland and Jack Butler both had 6 solo blocks for Carmel (6-14, 2-3), while Nick Russo totaled 9 digs. Michael Fitzgibbons and Peter Gehrke dished 16 and 13 assists, respectively.

"We probably played as well as we have all season long, despite the loss," Carmel coach Kevin Nylen said.

Lake Forest d. Libertyville: Eric Handrich slammed 7 kills and Matt Tassler had five for the Wildcats in their 25-17, 25-23 loss.

Max Kornfeld set 58 of 58 with 15 assists for Libertyville (6-18, 1-4 North Suburban). Bryan Bonamarte had 4 blocks.

Zion-Benton d. Lake Zurich: The Zee-Bees won the North Suburban Conference match 25-15, 25-22.

Lake Zurich (1-17, 1-5) got 5 kills and 4 blocks from Jeff Steinberg. Chris Carmody and Tom Doherty each had 4 kills, and Jack Wegener dished out 15 assists on 45-of-47 setting.
