Skate parks open:Lake in the Hills skate parks are now open for the season. Park hours are 9 a.m. until dusk daily. Helmet, elbow and knee pads are strongly recommended. Skate parks are at Richard Taylor Skate Park, Sunset Skate Park, 1107 Crystal Lake Road, 5200 Miller Road and 9200 Haligus Road, Lake in the Hills.Spirit of Public Health:McHenry County Department of Health will take nominations for its fifth annual Spirit of Public Health Awards until April 9. Nominations of individuals or groups that have made an impact on the community in the area of public health would include:bull; Students - those who have demonstrated a commitment toward improving the health of the community through volunteering, fundraising, mentoring or increasing awareness of a health concern;bull; Volunteers - those who have shown dedication outside of their normal work day to improve the safety and health of the community;bull; Professionals - those who have made an improvement to the health and well-being of the public.A description of the award and a nomination form can be viewed online at mcdh.info along with winners from previous years. Awards will be presented at a special event in April celebrating Public Health Week. Health department employees are not eligible to receive this award. Questions? The library will host a job searchers' crash course from 6 to 8 p.m. April 27. A talk on cover letters will be given from 7 to 9 p.m. April 29. The courses are free, but registration is required.
