Kimball Middle School to celebrate 50 years: Kimball Middle School will officially celebrate its 50 year anniversary 5 p.m. Jan. 26 with an open house, guided tours and a rededication ceremony in the school's gym, 451 N. McLean Blvd. in Elgin. Pictures will be posted throughout the building displaying the 50 years at Kimball. During school hours that day, the staff and students will dress in clothing from 1959. Anyone with Kimball artifacts is asked to bring them to the school.Eat a Big Mac, help Turning Point: McDonald's restaurants in Algonquin, Fox River Grove, Huntley and Marengo will hold a "McCare Night" for Turning Point, the anti-domestic violence agency and shelter in McHenry County, on Feb. 3. From 5 to 8 p.m. that evening, the restaurants will donate 15 percent of all proceeds to the agency. It is the first time the four restaurants will hold a McCare night simultaneously. The restaurants involved are located at 200 W. Grant Hwy., Marengo; 125 S. Randall Road, Algonquin; 10711 Route 47, Huntley; and 840 Northwest Hwy., Fox River Grove. More details, call Turning Point at (815) 338 8081.Be safe when snowmobiling: The McHenry County Sheriff's Office will be hosting the Illinois Department of Natural Resources' Snowmobile Safety Certification Course on Saturday, Feb. 13, Sunday, Feb. 28, and Saturday, March 13. The course, open to anyone 12 years or older, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the sheriff's office's Training Division, at the McHenry County Government Center in Woodstock. The course covers The maintenance and repair of snowmobiles, proper and safe operation, history of snowmobiling, first aid, protection of the environment and state snowmobiling laws.
