Celebrate a green holiday at ECOmmunity open house
Submitted by ECOmmunity Public Action Network
’Tis the season to “go green,” and the ECOmmunity Public Action Network invites the public to help celebrate at a special event marking its first year of eco-friendly volunteer service to the McHenry County community.
ECOmmunity’s “Happy Green Holidays” open house and bazaar will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. The local volunteer group will throw its doors open to the public for a two-day holiday reception and craft sale at its downtown office on the second floor of the Woodstock Square Mall, 110 S. Johnson St.
This free event offers “green”-themed holiday activities and craft ideas, music, refreshments and fun for all ages. Visitors may browse the Holiday Book Exchange and “leave a book, take a book” or, if they’ve brought no book to trade, can still choose from a wide selection of gently used books for only a small donation.
Just in time for holiday shopping, the group’s Green Holiday Bazaar offers a variety of handcrafted gifts, eco-friendly products and “green” business services from local vendors. Area crafters, artists, and “green-themed” businesses are invited to participate in the show, which will be held in the building’s open, second-floor atrium of the Woodstock Square Mall.
On Friday evening, members of Woodstock’s Off Square Music organization will entertain visitors with live musical performances on the building’s first floor, while the Green Holidays bazaar and refreshments are offered upstairs. Local performers who wish to share their talents during Saturday’s open house and bazaar are invited to contact the ECOmmunity office for details.
For participant information, bazaar vendors and performers may inquire by email at econet.mchenry@gmail.com or by phone at (815) 337-2040 or (224) 388-2840.
The all-volunteer ECOmmunity Public Action Network strives to promote sustainable, eco-friendly communities through networking programs, public service projects and educational activities, support for “green” business development, and local environmental advocacy.
