COD Chamber Orchestra features guest trumpeter Oct. 24
The College of DuPage Chamber Orchestra will perform a concert featuring guest trumpeter and COD faculty member Brian Reichenbach at 5 p.m. Monday, March 14, in the Lobby of the McAninch Arts Center, 425 Fawell Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.
The chamber orchestra performs under Music Director and Conductor Dan Pasquale D'Andrea of Downers Grove.
The free concert features “Serenade (#3) in E major, op. 36 “ by Ignaz Brüll, “Suite in D for Orchestra, op. 49, first and fifth movements” by Camille Saint-Saëns, and “Trumpet Concerto in Eb major (orig. E major), fist movement” by Johann Nepomuk Hummel.
”Saint-Saëns has been called the 'French Beethoven', and the Suite particularly movement 5 exemplifies and justifies this moniker. The first movement reveals a Bach Prelude cum Saint-Saëns,” D'Andrea said. “Meanwhile the Hummel, one of the major concertos for trumpet, showcases the varied aspects of the ‘bright seraphim.' It's our privilege to perform this work COD's own Brian Reichenbach.”
Reichenbach performs and teaches throughout the Chicago area, playing regularly with many area ensembles such as New Philharmonic, Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Quad Cities Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra, and Light Opera Works. He has worked under major conductors including James Conlon, James Levine, and Yuri Temirkanov. In 1999 and 2006, he performed as solo trumpet in the premieres of operas by Bernard Rands and Ned Rorem under the direction of David Zinman at the Aspen Music Festival and in 2001 and 2008 toured Germany with the brass choir, Eurobrass. An avid chamber musician, the Lombard resident is a member of the International Chamber Artists and founding member of the Lincoln Park Brass.
Reichenbach has also appeared as soloist with the College of DuPage Chamber Orchestra, Wheaton College Symphonic Band, and the Riverside Brookfield and Wheaton Warrenville South High School Wind Ensembles. He studied trumpet performance at Wheaton College and DePaul University with Terry Schwartz and John Hagstrom, respectively. Reichenbach teaches trumpet, coaches chamber music, and teaches brass methods at College of DuPage and Olivet Nazarene University.
D'Andrea is music director of several ensembles, including the Senior Suburban Orchestra, COD's Chamber Orchestra, Combined Church Choir of Itasca, Wind Harmonies Wind Ensemble, and Sinfonietta Bel Canto. He has music degrees from DePaul University, the New England Conservatory and Northern Illinois University and is a skilled harpsichordist and bassoonist. D'Andrea served as director of the Salt Creek Sinfonietta for 14 years and currently is principal bassoon with the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra.
