Scouting St. Edward at Hampshire

St. Edward (6-4) at Hampshire (4-5)

When: today at 7 p.m. at Hampshire Athletic Field

Last year: St. Edward 32, Hampshire 6

Outlook: These teams have clashed in every season opener since 1999 with Hampshire holding a 7-4 lead. St. Edward has won the last two meetings. The series will be discontinued after this season so Fox Valley Conference-bound Hampshire can continue to play rival Burlington Central; St. Edward will open against Genoa-Kingston in 2011. In last season's victory, Wave quarterback Ben Lehman completed 6-of-10 passes for 116 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown to Sam Pozezinski. Both seniors return. "They've got a lot of really nice players at the skill positions," Hampshire coach Dan Cavanaugh said. "Their quarterback is outstanding. They've got some real quick backs and some real good receivers, so they're going to be strong." Hampshire has added a shotgun wrinkle to its offense with senior quarterback Brian Roberts taking snaps. "Some of our guys saw some of their guys at camps over the summer, so we know they have some skilled kids," Rolando said of the Whips."
