Hanover Park man gets 20 years for robberies

A Hanover Park man received a 20-year prison sentence Monday after pleading guilty in Rolling Meadows' Third Municipal District to a series of 2008 home invasions and robberies.

Daniel Suddoth, of the 2200 block of Walnut, was the last of four defendants charged in the attacks - which took place in Elk Grove Village, Schaumburg and Streamwood - to agree to a negotiated plea. Co-defendants Mark Sharks, of the 100 block of Ashton Court in Streamwood; Trevor Russell, of the 1200 block of Tannery Ridge in Elgin; and Steven Anderson, of the 2200 block of Walnut in Hanover Park, pleaded guilty last year and received sentences ranging from eight to 16 years in prison.

Prosecutors say Suddoth, together with some of his co-defendants, entered the victims' homes between April 23 and May 9 of 2008, inflicted bodily injury upon the victims and removed property previously described as money, jewelry and electronic equipment.

Suddoth's extensive criminal background includes convictions for robbery, armed robbery, burglary and retail theft, along with a number of misdemeanors, said Assistant State's Attorney Mike Gerber.

Assistant Public Defender Scott Slonim pointed out that his client has an IQ of 64 which impairs cognitive functioning. He is also addicted to heroin and is impoverished, Slonim said.

"Add to that, bad associates and you have the recipe for what happened here," Slonim said.

Suddoth will receive credit for the 636 days he has been in jail. It was unclear how much of his sentence he must complete before he is eligible for parole.
