Two arrested after man killed, woman wounded in Mundelein shooting
Two people were arrested Tuesday following a shooting in Mundelein that left one person dead and another wounded, police said.
The violence broke out after 11:30 a.m. in an apartment on the 500 block of Deepwoods Drive, in the Woodlands Apartments complex, authorities said. One of the victims and a witness called 911 about 11:40 a.m. to report the shooting, said Christopher Covelli, spokesperson for the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force.
Mundelein police arrived and found a female resident of the apartment and a man had been shot, Covelli said.
Both victims were taken to a Lake County hospital. The man was pronounced dead there, Covelli said, but the woman is expected to survive.
Investigators learned a black Chevrolet Blazer was used as the getaway vehicle and shared a description with Chicago-area law enforcement agencies, Covelli said. Illinois State Police spotted the Blazer headed south on the Bishop Ford Expressway near 130th Street and the Indiana border, stopped it and arrested the man and woman inside, Covelli said.
Investigators believe the victims were targeted because of a domestic dispute. Authorities haven’t said whether charges have been filed.
The shooting is under investigation.
