Free music downloads now available from Schaumburg library
What’s better than an iTunes gift card? FreeTunes from Freegal — now available from the Schaumburg Township District Library (STDL).
This new service, launched May 1, offers STDL cardholders three free music downloads per week from a huge selection of songs. And the best part is — there is no expiration date. The free songs are yours to keep.
Wondering about the selection?
There are 400,000 FreeTunes in more than 100 genres of music, and more than 50 record labels.
“Staff and patrons who have used FreeTunes have commented on how easy it is to use, and how excited they are to tell their friends and family about the service,” said Amy Peterson, head of STDL’s Audiovisual Services. “FreeTunes is fast, free and at your fingertips. It offers the convenience of being available 24/7. People really like that.”
To find out more and start downloading your music, go to schaumburglibrary.org and click on the FreeTunes icon (a purple music note). From there you will find a link that will lead you to the FreeTunes login and simple instructions for acquiring your music. The downloads on this site are all in the MP3 format and will work with any MP3 player, including iPod, and can be loaded into iTunes. It works on both PCs and Macs.
STDL launched this service after joining the Library Ideas’ network of public library websites that offer access to songs from Sony Music’s catalog of legendary artists.
“Sony Music has an incredibly expansive and popular catalog and we are really excited to partner with them on this, a very important product for libraries,”said Brian Downing, co-founder of Library Ideas. “A library is a focal point of the community that requires many tools to excite people about library resources. More than anything, that is the reason for the service.”
If you enjoy music and have a Schaumburg Township District Library card, try out our newest service. It’s free, easy, convenient — and did I mention free? Just log on to schaumburglibrary.org and look for the purple music note.
