Cary-Grove rolls in opener
Cary-Grove 6, McHenry 0: The top-ranked Trojans opened the postseason with a win over the host team in the semifinals of the Class 4A McHenry regional. Sophomore Lindsay Efflandt (25-1) allowed 5 hits and struck out seven with one walk in earning the win. Taylor Dunne (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Emma Gaulke (2-for-4, RBI) led the offense for the Trojans (28-1).
Marengo 17, Hampshire 1: Top seed Marengo (27-9) got a 1-hitter from Chloe Montgomery to eliminate Hampshire from the Whip-Purs’ Class 3A regional. Jen Hurst was the losing pitcher for Hampshire (7-20).
