Elk Grove’s Goranson nearly throws second straight no-hitter

A bunt single with one out in the third inning by Prospect sophomore Julie Mazur was all that kept Elk Grove junior ace Dani Goranson from a second straight no-hitter.

Goranson struck out 11 and walked one in an 11-0 five-inning triumph over visiting Prospect on Thursday, improving the first-place Grens to 18-3 and 9-1 in the Mid-Suburban League East Division.

Twenty four hours earlier, Goranson struck out 13 in 3-0 no-hitter at Fremd.

The Michigan State recruit has recorded 24 strikeouts in her last 36 outs.

Senior Megan Keegan (2-for-3) ended Thursday’s game with 2-run, walk-off homer. Freshman Becca Maher also went 2-for-3, while Goranson was 2-for-2 with a double right before Keegan’s blast.

Carly Danek doubled for Elk Grove.

Sophomore Mary Liberty went all 5 innings for Prospect (4-16, 1-9).

Palatine 7, Schaumburg 2: Senior Dani Boisvert (5 strikeouts) improved to 14-3 for the visiting Pirates (17-4, 6-2), who scored 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth to break a 2-2 tie against Alyssa Lancaster (5-5).

Sam Salomone (2-for-4, triple, double, 2 runs), Joanne Jablonski (2-for-4, RBI, 1 run), Lauren Logan (double, RBI) and Alexis Bauer (2-for-3, 1 run) led the Pirates’ attack.

Catcher Jablonski threw out two runners trying to steal second, and the Pirates turned two doubles plays.

Alexis Carravetta (2-for-3), Brianne Lingl (2-for-4), Lancaster (1-2, double), Aubrey Lopshire (1-for-3, RBI) led the offense for Schaumburg (11-6, 5-4).

Barrington 6, Hersey 1: Kiersten Tinkoff (2-for-4, RBI), Liz Owen (2-for-4), Loren Krzysko (double), Jazlynn Skor (double) and winning pitcher Kiley Dolezal (2-for-3) led the offense for visiting Barrington (18-9, 6-3). Dolezal is 14-6 on the mound.

Alex Tinalgia (2-for-4, double) and Angela Schmiederer (2-for-3) were top hitters for Hersey (5-15, 2-8)

Maine West 9, Maine East 3: Holly Wengerski (3-for-3, 2 doubles), Renee Pond (triple), Angela Cruz (2-for-3, double, 2 RBI), Nicole Mavraganis (2-for-2) and Caroline Baird (2-for-3, 2 RBI) were offensive leaders for host Maine West (12-7, 7-1) in the CSL North.

Winning pitcher Alyssa Bojarski (3-1) struck out five.

Downers Grove South 8, Leyden 5: Morgan Maize (2-for-4, RBI), Moira Quinlan (2-for-4, RBI), Bri Michels (2-for-4 double, RBI), Amanda Moran (2-for-4) and Denise Moran (2-for-2) led Leyden, which improved to 16-3 and 4-2 in West Suburban Gold. Maize (15-2) struck out five.
