Softball/Fox Valley roundup

Alex Buhrow’s game-winning double drove in Corrine Wimmer with the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday as Larkin downed Streamwood 4-3 in Upstate Eight Conference softball action.

“It was a great win,” said Larkin coach Larry Hight. “We played them at their place and lost 8-7, played them at our place and won 4-3. We play them again in the first game of regionals so it should be a great game.”

Kiernan Schock (6-8) earned the win for the Royals in what Hight called, “her best varsity game ever.” She struck out nine and didn’t walk a batter and allowed just 4 hits.

Wimmer had 2 hits with a double for the Royals (9-19, 2-9), Megan Johnson had 2 hits, sophomore Jaclyn Saurbaugh had a double and a home run and Sam King added a hit.

Bri Bodgawicz had 2 hits for the Sabres (3-19, 2-11) and Kaitlyn Hedger drove in a run. Kelsey Johnson suffered the loss in the circle.

St. Edward 6, Immaculate Conception 0: Sarah Field tossed a 5-hitter with 6 strikeouts and Tarah McShane was 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI to lead the Green Wave (14-8, 10-3) to a Suburban Christian win. Kali Kossakowski was 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored for St. Edward, while Ashley Gradisher went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and Veronica Rolando was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Burlington Central 17, Harvard 0: The Rockets inched closer to securing second place in the Big Northern East with this win. Hayley Albamonte, Audrey Djukic, Emily Bell and Rebecca Roscher each doubled in the 13-hit attack, while Rebekah Harnish and Lauren King had triples. Kelsey Johnson (4-3) picked up the win for the Rockets (13-12, 7-2), allowing just 3 hits with 2 strikeouts and no walks.

St. Charles North 9, Elgin 0: The Maroons (16-13, 5-10) got only 2 hits and committed 6 errors in this Upstate Eight loss. Jennah Perryman suffered the loss in the circle for Elgin.

Huntley 6, Johnsburg 1: Kelsey Hagan was 2-for-4 with 4 RBI and Brittany Koss went 3-for-4 as Huntley (12-11) won this nonconference game. Taylor Larson was also 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Red Raiders, while Ashley Laxner (3-1) picked up the win in the circle, allowing just 5 hits.

Marengo 14, Hampshire 2: Marengo’s Bethany Hart no-hit the Whip-Purs (4-16, 2-5) in the Big Northern East. Elisa Wood suffered the loss for Hampshire.
