3 new principals named in Dist. 300

The Community Unit District 300 school board has named the new principals who will lead three of the district’s largest schools.

At Wednesday’s board meeting, the school board hired Ami Engel for the role at Jacobs High School in Algonquin, Joe Schumacher was picked to lead Dundee Middle School in West Dundee and Amanda Edwards was named as principal at Liberty Elementary School in Carpentersville.

All three are existing district educators and are filling positions vacated by the promotions of the current school principals to Superintedent-elect Michael Bregy’s leadership team.

Having served as an assistant principal at the elementary and second schools, as well as an interim principal, Edwards will take on the full role of principal at Liberty. Edwards joined the district in 2007 as assistant principal at Westfield Elementary School. Edwards will fill the role vacated by Kristin Corriveau, who was named assistant superintendent for teaching and learning at elementary and preschools.

Engel, who joined District 300 in 1999 as a science teacher at Jacobs, will take over from Shelley Nacke, who was named assistant superintendent for teaching and learning for educational services. Engel became an administrator in 2007 after teaching at the high school for eight years.

Schumacher also joined District 300 in 2007 as assistant principal at Dundee Middle School. He will now take on the role of principal at the West Dundee school when Kara Vicente moves to the role of assistant superintendent of teaching and learning for middle schools.
