Streamwood was down but never out in a 12-9 victory at Oswego East Tuesday.
The Sabres (1-1) fell behind 8-2 through three innings, but they rallied with 3 runs in the fifth, took the lead with a 6-run sixth and added an insurance run in the seventh to make a winner of relief pitcher Lucas Leckie (1-0). Sophomore Richie Gorski pitched 12/3 innings to earn the save.
Senior Mike Diebold led the comeback at the plate, going 4-for-4 with 3 doubles and 4 RBI. Tim Cohen (2-for-5) doubled and drove in 4 runs and Pat Manning doubled and drove in a run for the Sabres.
Cary-Grove 2, Prospect 1: Matt Byrne drove in the winning run in the top of the eighth inning to lead the Trojans (2-0) to a nonconference win in Mt. Prospect. Mike Vilardo went 2-for-4 and drove in a run. Matt Kownick (1-0) earned the win in relief by throwing 2 innings of 1-hit ball with 3 strikeouts.
Burlington Central 9, Sycamore 0: Sophomore Zach Ranney earned his first varsity victory by tossing 5 scoreless innings in which he allowed only 4 hits, walked none and struck out 5. Senior catcher Austin Jarvis went 2-for-2 with a double, RBI and 3 runs scored, and junior Nick Hahn finished 2-for-3 with 2 runs. Sophomore Ray Hunnicutt drove in 2 runs for the Rockets (2-0).
Marian Central 9, Hampshire 7: Trailing 9-2, Hampshire rallied for 4 runs in the fifth inning and 2 runs in the sixth but couldn't complete the comeback in this nonconference home game when they hit into a double play with the bases loaded in the seventh inning to end the game. Ryan DeChant and Tyler Crater each had 2 hits and Max Shaw doubled for the Whip-Purs (1-2).
McHenry 11, Larkin 1: The Royals were beaten in five innings in this nonconference road game. Junior Miguel Villafane allowed 6 earned runs on 6 hits with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts in 31/3 innings. Junior Lee Jackson and senior Scott Harm each went 1-for-3 for the Royals (0-3-1).
