Bartlett High teacher named Illinois Drafting Educator of the Year

Jerry Hund, computer aided drafting (CAD) teacher at Bartlett High School, has been named the 2010 Illinois Drafting Teacher of the Year by the Illinois Drafting Educator's Association.

“Jerry is very deserving of this award,” said Dr. Kevin Skinkis, principal of Bartlett High. “During his time at BHS, his students have reached the IDEA's state qualifying exam every year. In addition, our students have won first place in 2002 and 2005 in architecture/CAD, and have placed second in the state for multiple years.

Before joining the staff at Bartlett High in 1999, Hund had taken a 25 year sabbatical from teaching in order to build his expertise in the field of drafting. During that time, Hund served in many roles, including as the director of education for Binks Manufacturing, as a product designer for S-K Tools, as a pinball game designer for D. Gottlieb & Company, and he had worked as an architect's apprentice. Hund also currently serves as a part-time CAD instructor at the College of DuPage, where he teaches interior design.

This is the second time that a Bartlett High School teacher has earned the prestigious Drafting Teacher of the Year award. In 2000, BHS teacher Gary Goble was the recipient.

Founded in 1957, the Illinois Drafting Educator's Association is a nonprofit education organization that aims to advance the drafting occupation through better education.
