Children’s author at Schaumburg library
A number of fun and informative events, including a visit by children’s author Grace Lin, are scheduled at the Schaumburg Township District Library during late January.
Lin is the author and illustrator of more than a dozen pictures books, including “The Ugly Vegetables” and “Dim Sum for Everyone.” She is also the author of middle grade fiction, with her 2010 Newbery Honor book “Where the Mountain Meets the Moon” chosen for Al Roker’s “Today Show” Kid’s Book Club and ending up a New York Times best-seller.
Lin will visit from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, in the Rasmussen Room of the central library at 130 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg. A book sale and signing will follow the free presentation. No registration is required.
For adults, the week ahead is also full of a variety of free programs, but which do require registration by calling (847) 923-3347 or dropping by the Information/Magazines Desk on the library’s second floor.
Those interested in travel, history or geography will enjoy “Navajo Nation,” jointly presented by Bill Helmuth and Chief Medicine Man Henry Barber from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, in the Rasmussen South Room.
The two men will take attendees on a virtual trip through the Navajo Nation in New Mexico and Arizona, showing them the schools, the famous Navajo rug weavers and the incredible historic scenery of Mesa Verde and Monument Valley National Parks.
Other programs during the 7:30 to 9 p.m. time slot over the coming days are “Why and How to Become a Better Listener” on Tuesday, Jan. 25; “Handwriting Analysis” on Wednesday, Jan. 26; “The Art of Marc Chagall” on Thursday, Jan. 27; and “Eating for the Season” on Monday, Jan. 31.
