Your news: Professor’s piano clinic in Rolling Meadows

The Northwest Suburban Music Teachers Association presents Kathleen Riley, adjunct assistant professor of piano at New York University, in recital 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, at Countryside Unitarian Church, 1025 Smith Road, Palatine.
Riley will perform classical piano music by various composers and levels of difficulty appropriate for any age. The event is open to the general public and tickets are $5. Purchase or reserve in advance by calling (847) 854-2523 or by e-mailing jlrpiano@yahoo.com. Tickets will also be available at the door.
On Monday, Feb. 21, from 9:30 a.m.-2:15 p.m., Riley will conduct a traditional style workshop for piano teachers at Rolling Meadows Library, 3110 Martin Lane. She will present strategies for music teachers to use including “The Keyboard, Sound Score,” “Understanding Students’ Individual Profiles,” and “Building Interpretation: The Pianist Equals the Illusionist.” The $55 registration fee includes one ticket to the Sunday recital. Last minute walk-ins are welcome for the Monday workshop. A lunch option and discounts for early registration, new association members and full-time students will be available.
The Northwest Suburban Music Teachers Association is a member chapter of the Illinois State Music Teachers Association and the Music Teachers National Association. The objective of the suburban association is the advancement of musical knowledge and education through monthly programs and workshops, colleague support and activities for students.
