Forum on police issues Monday

The public is invited to attend a community forum on police issues 7 p.m. Monday, July 19, at the Schaumburg Township Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg, that will feature representative from the Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg police departments and the Cook County Sheriffs office.

The event, organized by state Rep. Fred Crespo, a Streamwood Democrat, will focus on techniques and strategies to better involve the community and open the lines of communication between local residents and their police departments. The idea is to promote strategies aimed at encouraging community members and police to work together in partnership to provide a preemptive force against crime in the community.

"The people need to understand that the police department is there to serve and protect, but that power is not absolute; we need to get the community more involved." Crespo said.
