South Elgin splits with Waubonsie Valley: The Storm (13-3, 10-2) earned a close 2-1 victory in Game 1 before the Warriors came back and stole Game 2 with the same score of 2-1 in Upstate Eight Conference action. Andrew Weedman (HR) and Nevan Jeske (2B) knocked in both of the Storm’s runs in the first game while Eric Stazy (4-0) picked up the win on the mound. David Palmer (3-2) suffered the tough loss in the nightcap for the Storm.
Larkin drops two at Geneva: The Royals (6-13, 3-8) fell 8-0 and 5-2 against the Vikings in Upstate Eight Conference play. Niko Morado went 3-for-6 on the day with a double, triple, and 3 RBI to lead Larkin offensively while Dylan Ganow added 2 hits. Chris Guzeman (0-2) suffered the loss in Game 1. Ganow (1-2) took the loss in Game 2.
Bartlett splits with Lake Park: Colin Nowak provided a 2-run blast in the top of the sixth inning and the Hawks (9-11, 5-7) held on to take Game 1 from the Lancers 2-0 before falling in Game 2, 5-1 in Upstate Eight Conference play. Justin Blanchett earned the victory as he pitched 6 shutout innings while scattering 5 hits and Nowak earned the save as he came on to pitch the seventh. Dan Gallanis (2B) knocked in the Hawks’ lone run in Game 2 while Mike Roberson also recorded a double. Gallanis (1-4) suffered the loss.
Elgin sweeps Streamwood: The Maroons (6-13, 2-10) earned a pair of shutout victories as they defeated the Sabres twice by the score of 2-0 in the Upstate Eight. Ryan Sitter (2-3) threw a stellar Game 1 as he scattered 3 hits and 2 walks while striking out 4 in the complete game effort. Jake Bartelt recorded 2 hits with a double and an RBI while Gage Teschner and Derek Strohmaier also recorded doubles. Richie Gorski suffered the loss for the Sabres. Alex Doty (2-3) earned the victory in Game 2 as he threw a complete game with 9 strikeouts, no walks and 3 hits. Teschner knocked in the Maroons’ 2 runs with a groundout and a single in the sixth inning. Matt Harding took the loss for the Sabres.
Westminster Christian sweeps IMSA: The Warriors used dominate pitching performances as they took Game 1 in this nonconference doubleheader 6-0 and then completed the sweep with a 11-1, 5-inning victory. Ryan Perez (4-1) pitched a solid 4 innings to earn the victory in Game 1 as he struck out 8 and allowed just 1 walk. Will Woodhouse, Perez, Ryan Scully, and Matt Swing each drove in a run. In Game 2, Clay Dehaan (3-2) earned the victory as he also threw 4 solid innings with 6 strikeouts, 1 walk, and 2 hits. Woodhouse (double), Chase Woods, and John Wawco each recorded 2 hits while Perez added a double.
McHenry 3, Dundee-Crown 2: The Chargers (6-10-1, 3-5) carried a 2-1 lead into the seventh, but Mchenry came back to score 2 in the bottom of the seventh to earn the Fox Valley Conference victory. Eric Brewer (2-3) suffered the tough loss giving up only 3 hits. Dylan Kissack (double) and Luis Garcia each recorded 2 hits for the Chargers while Jake Romano and Ryan Suwanski each drove in a run.
St. Edward 5, North Boone 4: The Green Wave (14-12) used a solid defensive effort to earn a nonconference victory. Jacob Koehring (double) and Michael Castoro (RBI) recorded 2 hits each while Luke Duffy added a double. Jake Tierney (2-3) tossed a complete game as he scattered 8 hits and walked 5 while striking out 4 batters.
