Sampler Lecture Series concludes with overview of of local to national politics

Submitted by McHenry County Historical Society

McHenry County’s connection to nationally known public figures has long been through McHenry resident Al Jourdan. As a former Illinois State Republican Party Chairman, he had access to many political leaders from the local to the national level.

At 2 p.m. Monday, April 16, Jourdan will be at the McHenry County Historical Society Museum, 6422 Main St., Union to talk about his long career and the individuals he met along the way that shaped public policy. Jourdan, originally from Chicago, entered McHenry County politics in 1961 as a Republican committeeman. He served as McHenry County Republican Chairman between 1968 and 1998. From 1972-97, he was McHenry County Auditor and between 1991 and 1993 he was head of the Illinois Republican Party. In 1998, Jourdan became the first inductee into the McHenry County Republican Foundation’s Hall of Fame.

His talk will highlight his personal career as well as stories of leading political figures from governors to presidents. This is the final presentation in the historical society’s annual Sampler Lecture Series.

Tickets for this presentation are $10 each and are available at the door. For information, call (815) 923-2267 or email at mchsonline.org.
