Wild win for Buffalo Grove
Wild might be an understated way of summing up Buffalo Grove’s Mid-Suburban East baseball visit to Prospect on Tuesday afternoon.
BG never trailed but Prospect tied it on a 2-run homer in the bottom of the seventh at Larry Pohlman Field.
The Bison the scored the tie-breaking run in the top of the eighth on a walk and three batters getting hit by pitches with two outs as they held on for a 10-9 victory.
Jimmy Pinakidis, Ryan Nisbet (3-for-3) and Andrew Van Wazer were all hit to force in the go-ahead run for BG (14-15, 9-6). Dan Recht got the victory as he pitched a scoreless eighth after leaving the bases loaded in the seventh.
BG took a 9-7 lead in the top of the seventh on the fourth homer of the year by Nisbet. The senior outfielder also doubled, tripled and drove in 3 runs.
But an error in the bottom of the seventh set Brian Bauer’s game-tying 2-run blast for the Knights, who clinched the East title Monday.
Jake Monson went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Kevin Tennenbaum also homered as BG also had leads of 3-0 and 8-3. Shane Joyce doubled twice for Prospect.
St. Viator 7, DeLaSalle 5: Sophomore Gunnar Kay got the victory and Cory Kay and Nick Prazuch tripled for St. Viator (17-12) in the nonconference game.
