Your news: Dist. 46 announces appointments
Dr. José M. Torres, superintendent of School District U-46, recently announced his selection for key positions, including chief operating officer and chief human resources officer — two cabinet-level positions.
Jeff King, who had worked in the school district from 2001 to 2009, has been named chief operating officer effective Tuesday, Feb. 15. King has served as the assistant superintendent for finance and operations in Lake Zurich School District 95, a position he accepted in 2009. In that position, he is responsible for budgeting, accounts payable, purchasing, transportation, capital projects and the operations and maintenance of facilities.
Before joining Lake Zurich School District 95, King served for three years as the executive director of operations in U-46, overseeing key operational areas including purchasing, food and nutrition services, plant operations and pupil transportation. He was originally hired by School District U-46 in 2001 to the position of director of business services.
King earned both a bachelor of arts in economics and a master of business administration from Eastern Illinois University. He also holds his state certification as a Chief School Business Official.
“There is no better qualified candidate for this position than Jeff King,” said Superintendent Torres.
“Jeff knows our district, its schools and our employees. He brings with him the operational and financial experiences we need in School District U-46,” Torres said.
Torres also announced his selection of Debbie Zelinski to serve in the cabinet-level position of chief human resources officer, a position she will assume immediately. Most recently, Zelinski served as the vice president, human resources for iPCS Communications, Inc.
Prior to working at iPCS Communications, Zelinski worked at InteliStaf Healthcare in Oakbrook Terrace as the director of human resources, the director of human resources at PrimeCo Personal Communications in Itasca, and as the director of human resources at Ameritech in Hoffman Estates. Her varied responsibilities have included training and development, staffing, compensation and benefits and employee relations. In each of her roles she has been responsible for companywide human resource strategy, shaping the company vision and culture and initiating and steering the development and delivery of diversity awareness.
Zelinski earned her bachelor’s degree in human resources management from Elmhurst College and a master of business administration in marketing from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. She also holds professional certification as a Senior Professional in Human Resources. Zelinski also serves on the board of directors for the Volunteer Center of Northwest Suburban Chicago.
“Debbie brings a wealth of experience in talent acquisition to U-46,” said Torres. “Like all school districts, the majority of our funds are spent on people. With more than 20 years of experience and background in human resources, Debbie will help us ensure that we are strategic in our recruitment, retention, and investment in the teachers, indeed all employees, in U-46,” he added.
Other administrative hires announced include:
Jennifer Bond-Stoever, director of instruction, elementary education; Andrea Dombrowski, coordinator for teacher effectiveness initiatives; and Dr. Annette Acevedo, coordinator of the Family Welcome Center.
