Lucy the whale visits Blackwell School

Wanting her deaf and hard of hearing students to comprehend the concept of size, Linda Clark of Schaumburg, a primary deaf and hard of hearing educator, brought Lucy, a 60-foot-long whale to visit Blackwell school.

"This whale has been a lifelong dream of mine so that all children can comprehend the concept of size. I work with deaf and dard of hearing students and a visual representation speaks many words," said Clark.

Last year, Clark wrote a grant on Donorschoose.org. The Web site allows people from all over the world to donate money from $1 to hundreds as they read about various projects that they would like to help fund. The teachers receive the funding and materials are sent directly to their school.

US Cellular helped fund many projects on donorschoose.org last year and Clarks grant was approved with US Cellular funds. "I am extremely grateful to them and all the people who helped build my whale with me. They have heard about my whale dream for many years and helped me fulfill a wish."

All the students at Elizabeth Blackwell School were able to see, touch and walk inside the whale.
