U-46 special needs fair is March 3
The Citizens’ Advisory Council and the U-46 Special Education Department will offer a free Parents Resource Fair, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, March 3 at Elgin High School, 1200 Maroon Drive, Elgin.
Families will learn about the services and programs that local, regional and state agencies provide for our special needs community.
Two discussion panels will be hosted by local service providers. Greater Elgin Family Care Center and Streamwood Behavioral Health will lead a discussion on health and wellness at 10 a.m.
Elgin Community College, Pact Inc. of DuPage County, DayOne Network of Kane County and the Illinois DHS Office of Rehabilitation Services will host a panel on post-secondary experiences at 11 a.m.
In addition, U-46 staff will provide presentations on IEP basics at 9:30 a.m. and at noon.
Seventeen other agencies will be there to distribute information and answer parents’ questions, including: Easter Seals; Illinois Assistive Technology Program — Work Incentive Planning and Assistance; UPS for Downs; Association for Individual Development; Advocates Network of Kane and Kendall County; Autism Society of Illinois; Special Olympics; Kane County Department of Employment and Education; Illinois Lighthouse for the Blind; and Illinois Service Resource Center, along with representatives from local library and recreation staff.
