Girls basketball/Fox Valley roundup

McHenry 37, Hampshire 35: Michelle Dumoulin had 11 points and Jenny Dumoulin added 10 but the Whip-Purs (15-14) came up just short in this nip-and-tuck Fox Valley Conference crossover. Tiffany Bentley added 6 points for Hampshire and Meghan Mortell led McHenry with 19 points.

Jacobs 50, Woodstock 29: Jessica Tennant scored 11 points and Jennifer Barnec added 10 to lead Jacobs to a FVC crossover win. Lauren Grady added 9 points for the Golden Eagles (6-19).

Woodstock North 56, Huntley 43: Sam Andrews had 19 points and Abbey Shaw added 9 for Huntley (13-15) in this FVC crossover loss. Aleecia Braun led Woodstock North (16-11) with 15 points.

CL South 69, Johnsburg 62: Sara Mickow scored 26 points, including going 12-for-12 at the free throw line, and had 10 rebounds to lead the Gators (11-17) to a FVC crossover win. Stephanie Melone added 15 points for CL South and Lauren Del Vecchio had 8.

D-C at Grayslake North, ppd. : The Chargers’ crossover game at Grayslake North was postponed Friday due to poor road conditions in Lake County. No date had been set to make the game up as of Friday night. The postponement also put Dundee-Crown senior Ali Sanders’ quest for the 1,000-point career milestone on hold. If the game isn’t made up Sanders, who needs just 4 points to hit 1,000, will get her next chance in the Class 4A South Elgin regional on Wednesday against Streamwood.

Correction: It was reported in Friday’s editions of the Daily Herald that South Elgin senior Becca Smith needed just 13 points to reach 2,000 for her career. Smith is actually 19 points shy of becoming only the third girl in Fox Valley history to reach 2,000 points. The Storm plays on Wednesday in its own regional against the winner of Monday’s Elgin-Larkin game.
