St. Viator cheerleaders show off state title trophy
The state champion St. Viator High School cheerleading squad triumphantly brought the trophy home on Wednesday, presenting it to their school in an all-school assembly following the Ash Wednesday Mass.
The girls performed a flawless program at the state finals and knocked off three-time state champions Lemont High School. It was the Lions first state cheerleading championship since the IHSA first started holding state finals seven years ago.
In 2001, St. Viator won the state championship when they competed in the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches’ Association state tournament.
St. Viator, located in Arlington Heights, was the only suburban school to win a state title at the competition that drew nearly 9,000 fans to the U.S. Cellular Coliseum in Bloomington.
