Larkin dance students bring 'Jumanji' to stage

Animals everywhere — and they're dancing?

The Visual and Performing Arts Dance Academy at Larkin High School will present its 11th “Bring a Book to Life” production this weekend — a dancing adaptation of “Jumanji,” by Chris Van Allsburg.

In this production, Peter and Judy explore a game board that comes to life onstage. With each roll of the dice, the events described by the game begin to materialize around them. Their quiet home is transformed by monkeys, a monsoon, befuddled guides, a rhinoceros stampede and pythons, to name a few.

Will the children make it to the Golden City to end the game? Audiences will have to come to the show to find out. The show, which runs about one hour, is suitable for all ages.

Performances are 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3; and 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Larkin High School, 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin. Tickets, available at the door, are $8 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

The show will include all of the Dance Academy students, several drama academy students and selected music students. Directors are Kelly Hill and Margaret Palmer.
