South Elgin’s Smith goes over 1,900
South Elgin senior Becca Smith became the third leading scorer in Fox Valley girls basketball history Friday night when she scored 30 points in the Storm’s 68-59 Upstate Eight Valley Division loss at Neuqua Valley.
Smith now has 1,920 career points and surpassed Elgin all-stater Melissa Parker on the area’s all-time list.
She scored 24 of her points in the second half, but the Storm came up short against the Valley’s third-place team.
Lania Robinson added 7 points for South Elgin (14-10, 3-8) and Savanah Uveges had 7.
Streamwood 59, Elgin 36: The Sabres (13-12, 8-4) secured second place in the Upstate Eight River with this win at home. Hannah McGlone had 16 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks to lead the way for Streamwood, while Deja Mora had 14, Jessica Cerda 13 and Holly Foret 10. Briana Hamilton led Elgin (1-24, 1-11) with 16 points.
St. Edward 42, ACC 40: Maddie Kerr made the game-winning shot in overtime as the Green Wave (20-7, 6-4) notched their 20th win of the season in this Suburban Christian Blue win on the road. Kerr led St. Edward with 14 points and Callie Johnson added 12.
Marengo 53, Burlington Central 33: Marengo clinched at least a share of the Big Northern East title with this win over the Rockets. Alison Colby led Central (12-15, 6-4) with 9 points.
Elgin Academy 23, Harvest Christian 22: Ashley Barnes had 12 points, 10 rebounds, 8 steals and 2 assists to lead the Hilltoppers (14-10) to a nonconference win. Alyson Wittmeyer had 8 rebounds for Elgin Academy. Morgan Lockwood scored 10 points for Harvest Christian (15-10).
