Wildlife skulls to inspire artists of all levels

Submitted by McHenry County Conservation District

McHenry County Conservation District invites all levels of artists to attend the “Skull Showcase and Study” portrait drawing class, from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at Glacial Park Lost Valley Visitor Center in Ringwood.

What lies beneath the fur and skin of our local fauna can be both eerie and fascinating. Skulls from some local wildlife will be displayed in a studio setting. Artists high school age to adults are invited to create a portrait using paints, pencil, charcoal, photographs or another medium of their choosing to capture both the strength and fragility of nature. Each display will include the natural history of the species describing how the animal once lived. Participants should bring their own supplies.

The workshop is free but preregistration required by Monday, Jan. 30, by calling (815) 479-5779 or online at MCCDistrict.org. For more information, call (815) 479-5779.
