Hoffman Estates stays hot

Hoffman Estates junior forward Destinee Young scored 12 points with 8 rebounds and senior guard Mary Pettit added 11 points with 8 assists and 3 steals as Hoffman Estates improved to 8-13 with a 52-30 nonconference win at Huntley on Saturday.

Sam Andrews led the Red Raiders (11-7) with 12 points.

The Hawks never trailed while building a 20-5 lead after one quarter.

"We picked up right where we left off from our game Friday night (55-50 loss to Mid-Suburban West power Fremd)," said Hawks coach Mike Nocella. "We played stifling defense, aggressive offense and controlled the boards."

Hawks junior Becca Stoczynski had 10 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 assists in three quarters of action.

The 6-foot forward left the game after falling to the floor and hitting her head. She did not suffer a concussion and should be ready to play in the Hawks' next game on Tuesday at Barrington.

Junior Shante Hill came off the bench and chipped in 8 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals for the Hawks while junior teammate Anna Luna scored her first varsity points when she made a layup in the final minute of the game.

Senior guard Sara Burns added 7 points for Hoffman, which won its first game outside of a tournament this season.

"In our last two games we've looked like the team that played over the holidays," said Nocella, referring to the Hawks' consolation championship at the Lady Mustangs Holiday Classic at Mundelein and first-place finish at the Boliermaker Invite at Bradley-Bourbannais.

Fenwick 86, St. Viator 52: Meredith Boardman (19 points, 10 rebounds), Jade Owens (17 points, 6 assists), Maggie Reilly (14 points) and Jenny Mackowiak (11) led Fenwick (16-5, 5-1), which made 8 3-pointers in the ESCC match.

The host Lions (13-10, 1-5) were led by Erin Fabbri (13 points). Teammates Mary Cleary, Lauren Rooney, Michelle Presslak and Jennie Horstmann each added 6 points and Morgan Hess 5.

Fabbri and Horstmann each had 3-pointers for the Lions, who face Oak Park-River Forest for third place at the Season's End tourney on Monday (7:30 p.m.) at Fenton High School.
