Cary-Grove's Kay elected to Hall of Fame

Cary-Grove football coach Bruce Kay is going out in style.

Kay, 55, who announced in November his intention to retire as a teacher, coach and athletic director at the end of the school year, has been elected to the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

In 22 seasons as head coach at his alma mater, Kay's teams went 168-68, highlighted by a Class 6A state championship in 2009.

“Between the state title and this, what more could a person want?” Kay said. “I think it's just another indicator of what our coaches and community and the players have all contributed to football at Cary-Grove.

“It's a little bit more of a personal recognition. It's definitely an award for endurance, I believe.”

Kay will be inducted in a ceremony at the University of Illinois on April 2.
