Schaumburg climbs above .500

Schaumburg’s girls basketball team climbed above .500 for the first time this season with a 59-42 nonconference victory over Lake Park on Wednesday night in Roselle.

Senior Alyssa Saklak equaled her season-high of 24 points for the Saxons (12-11) who won for the third time in four games.

Junior guard Amanda Kelly (4 3-pointers) scored 12 of her team-high 21 points in the fourth quarter.

Elk Grove 62, Larkin 36: Diamond Boyd scored 21 points with 5 steals to help lead the host Grenadiers (12-10) in the nonconference game.

Freshman Amber Lindfors collected a career-high 17 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.

Junior guard Kelly Naughton handed out 8 assists for the Grens while senior teammate Liz Bowman chipped in 8 points.

St. Viator 43, Regina 17: The Lions (14-12) pitched a first-quarter shutout and held the Panthers under double digits in each of the final three quarters of the nonconference game in Wilmette.

“We simply had a tremendous defensive effort,” said Lions coach Paul Bjerkness.

Senior Lauren Rooney and sophomore Erin Fabbri led the Lions with 12 points apiece.

The Lions also got solid minutes from Jennie Horstmann (6 rebounds), Michelle Presslak (3 points), Justice Johnson, Mary Cleary (3 points, 4 rebounds) and Katie Gavin (5 rebounds, 4 steals) while the Hess twins (seniors) also made their impact. Mallory had 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 points while Morgan collected 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
