Guide lists transportation options for local seniors
In an effort to increase awareness of the senior transportation services that exist in McHenry County, Faith in Action has published the second edition of the booklet "Transportation Services, A Guide for Seniors-Finding the Right Transportation Option for You."
The booklet includes a directory of traditional public and private transportation options, such as buses and taxis, as well as less-known Supplement Transportation Programs for seniors that are offered by organizations in the community.
The booklet identifies fixed route and demand-response programs; small and large-sized programs; programs that use paid drivers and programs that use volunteers; and programs that are available through government agencies, medical and health care groups, senior organizations and other community-based organizations.
Funding for the directory was provided by the McHenry County Community Foundation. The goal of the project is to promote safe transportation for seniors and to increase community awareness of available senior transportation options.
If you no longer drive, or if you know someone who also does not drive, this publication is for you. The booklet is available at the Faith in Action offices, 7105 Virginia Road, Suite 21, Crystal Lake, (815) 455-3120. The booklet may also be mailed for a $1 donation. An electronic version, which features the latest updates may be downloaded at fiamchenrycounty.org.
FIAMC began on Nov. 1, 1998 with receipt of $25,000 from the Robert S. Wood Johnson Foundation to establish an Interfaith Volunteer Caregiver Program for the elderly in McHenry County.
