Wisdom Foundation awards scholarships

The Wisdom Family Foundation has awarded $1,500 scholarships to be used toward higher education expenses to four Elgin Area School District U-46 high school seniors.

Zulma Sotelo of South Elgin High School, Alex White of Streamwood High School, Emerald Angarola of Larkin High School and Andrew Tarjeft of Larkin High School were presented with their 2010 scholarships at the inaugural Wisdom Adhesives Foundation Scholarship Award Dinner April 28.

In addition to the scholarships awarded, The Wisdom Family Foundation donated $10,000 to the U-46 Educational Foundation for the Project Access program.

Project Access works to ensure that underprivileged children have equal access to educational opportunities. The Wisdom Family Foundation's goal was to provide financial support to organizations and programs that assist in the growth and overall well-being of children and families in the greater Elgin area.

The Wisdom Foundation scholarship program offers students the opportunity to earn scholarships to use to further their education. The scholarship program is a sustainable initiative as it targets students who have faced and overcome extraordinary challenges and encourages their continued commitment to education.

The Wisdom Family Foundation board members reviewed the applications and were very impressed with this year's recipients.

"We were thrilled to offer these scholarships to Alex, Zulma, Emerald, and Andrew, who all demonstrated strong passion and commitment to their educational experiences and future goals," said Kristi Wisdom of The Wisdom Family Foundation. "Furthermore, collaborating with Project Access solidified the Wisdom Family Foundation's dedication to our community. The event was a tremendous success."

In order to qualify for this scholarship, candidates were required to meet and follow specific application criteria.
