Cary family escapes burning home
Smoke detectors may have saved a Cary family as they were awakened by the alarm late Sunday night while a fire spread throughout their home, officials said.
A Cary woman woke up her husband about an hour after he went to sleep as the smoke detectors were sounding at 11:30 p.m., and he quickly discovered the home was on fire, according to the Cary fire district.
The man safely evacuated his wife and both of his children to a neighbors house as firefighters were en route to the home at about 11:34 p.m.
Firefighters found the house on the 0-99 block of South Street ablaze and the flames were spreading toward a neighboring home. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Officials said the blaze caused extensive damage to the entire home and destroyed two vehicles, one in the garage and another in the driveway.
A damage estimate was not available Monday afternoon, but officials said the house is uninhabitable.
The fire did not spread to the neighboring home, but melted the siding of the entire side of the house, fire officials said.
There were no reported injuries during the fire.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but is not suspicious according to a preliminary investigation.
