Seminoles win President's Day tourney
The Schaumburg Seminoles 17U National Team won the President's Day 18U Tournament in Cocoa Fla. The Seminoles went undefeated with a 5-0 record in the tournament.
The Seminoles were lead at the plate by Matt Williams .687 batting average (11 for 16) with 1 HR and 10 RBI's. Matt was also named the Tournament MVP for his outstanding performance in every tournament game.
Parker Asmann .471 batting average (8 for 17) which included two game winning RBI's. Mike Herrmann .375 batting average (6 for 16) with 1 HR and 9 RBI's.
Also, Seminoles star short stop Matt Anderson and third baseman Kevin Colburn each hit home runs in the opening tournament victory.
The Seminoles five consecutive wins were victories 9-5 over the Maryland Blazers; 11-7 over the Orlando Nationals and 16-1 over the Wisconsin Rivercats.
In the playoff round, the Seminoles won 7-2 over the Upper Deck Cougars to advance to the championship game. In this playoff victory catcher Brenden Dunleavy delivered the games biggest hit - a three run bases clearing triple in the sixth inning. On the mound All American Parker Asmann was the winning pitcher throwing six strong innings, allowing one run on four hits.
Head Coach Russ Gangler said, "Parker is the best big game pitcher in the state and continues to win big games on the national level for our team every year. He's been our ace pitcher and team captain for over five years now and I'm very proud of him."
In the championship game the Seminoles continued their impressive offensive display at the plate scoring 19 runs to defeat the previously unbeaten Southern Maryland Orioles 19-7. Tournament MVP Matt Williams was three for four including a three run HR. Lead off hitter Carl Sugihara delivered in the championship game as well with three doubles and Joe Belmonte had a big two hit game at the plate.
Seminoles winning pitcher Nick Bates was great throwing three scoreless innings in relief. Bates recorded five strike outs in his three perfect innings of work. Congratulations to the entire Seminoles team on their championship at the Presidents Day Challenge Tournament in Cocoa Fla., over President's Day weekend.
