Holiday spirit alive and well among district U-46 employees

Nearly 100 Elgin Area School District U-46 employees recently demonstrated their holiday spirit, purchasing and wrapping gifts to donate to 125 children in need.
Organized through the U-46 Human Resources Department, employees at the district’s Educational Services Center adopted a family from the “Giving Tree” and spent a minimum of $20 per child adopted.
Children who will receive gifts are selected through the U-46 Project Access program, which serves homeless families and students in the district.
An additional 174 children in the Project Access program will receive gifts donated by members of Christ the Lord Lutheran Church, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and First Presbyterian Church of Elgin.
“I’m pleased that our district employees were extremely invested in helping make the holidays brighter for some of our most vulnerable students,” said Superintendent Jose M. Torres. “Many of our church and business partners have also donated, not just to Project Access students, but to our schools across the district. We want all of our students to have a warm, happy holiday season and providing gifts to our homeless students is just one small way we can help.”
