Chicago Philharmonic Chamber Players present 'Trio Mania' in Hinsdale
The award-winning Chicago Philharmonic Chamber Players will present Trio Mania at Union Church in Hinsdale on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at 3 p.m. The program will feature Impressionist works written in the early 20th century by the American Charles Martin Loeffler and the French Claude Debussy.
Guests will enjoy an exceptional performance in the inspiring sanctuary of Union Church of Hinsdale. The Chicago Philharmonic is made up primarily of Lyric Opera Orchestra members and other top-tier professional musicians from the Chicago area.
The first of the two Impressionist works will be Charles Martin Loeffler's Two Rhapsodies for Oboe, Viola and Piano. The Rhapsodies are evocative pieces inspired by two poems of Maurice Rollinat—“L'Etang” (The Pond) and “La Cornemeuse” (The Bagpipe). Loeffler transforms these images into an elaborate, romantic soundscape.
The musicians will also perform Claude Debussy's Sonate en Trio for Flute, Viola and Harp. Like much Impressionist music, the work has a beautiful surface shimmer, but an underlying tension and restlessness. Debussy referred to it as “terribly melancholy – should one laugh or cry? Perhaps both at the same time.”
The Song in the Night for solo harp by 20th century harp legend Carlos Salzedo, and Rondo in D Major W. A. Mozart transcribed for flute and harp will round out the program.
Performing are: Donna Milanovich, Flute; Timothy Sawyier, Oboe; Benton Wedge, Viola; Stephen Hartman , Harp; and Jelena Dirks, Piano.
The concert takes place at Union Church of Hinsdale, 137 S. Garfield Ave. This program is sponsored in part by the Illinois Arts Council. Tickets for each concert are $15 in advance ($10 seniors 65 and up)/$20 at the door ($15 seniors 65 and up). Students are free.
