Hersey, Hoffman Estates move on
Host Hersey erupted for 10 runs in the final two innings to register a 13-3 five-inning victory over No. 19-seeded Lake Forest in the quarterfinal game of the Class 4A New Trier softball regional.
The No. 15 Huskies (6-20) will face No. 2 New Trier in Tuesday’s semifinal at 4:30 p.m. in Winnetka.
Hersey senior Rachel Fang went all five innings for Hersey, striking out five and walking none.
The Huskies’ offense was led by junior Angela Schmiederer (3-for-4, double), junior Michelle Helminski (2-for-3, double), junior Kelsey Panfil (2-for-4), senior Becca Derka (2-for-3) and senior Sammie Carrillo (2-for-3).
Hoffman Estates 8, Streamwood 2: The visiting No. 17 Hawks (4-22) topped the No. 16 Sabres in the Class 4A Glenbard West regional quarterfinal.
Sophomore winning pitcher Charlotte Allan (first three innings with 1 strikeout) and freshman Tracy Osimowicz (no runs in the final four innings) combined their efforts on the mound.
Osimowicz also collected 4 RBI with a 2-run homer in the third inning and a 2-run single in the first.
Other multiple hitters for the Hawks were Sam Acosta (3-for-4, double, RBI), Jordyn Fera (3-for-4, double, RBI), Kaileen Hendle (2-for-4, RBI) and Nicole LaBeck (2-for-4, RBI).
The Hawks face top-seeded St. Charles East today at 4:30 p.m. at Glenbard West in Glen Ellyn.
