Schaumburg mayor leads by example during Bike to Work Week
Schaumburg Mayor Al Larson led by example Friday morning as he hosted a Bike to Work Week ride to his own workplace at the village's Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center.
Larson and Schaumburg Park District Commissioner Bob Schmidt shared a tandem bicycle from the ride's starting point at the park district's Meineke Recreation Center on Weathersfield Way.
Schaumburg commemorates Bike To Work Week each May to focus attention on cycling as a viable travel alternative and encourage residents to reduce their automobile use.
The village now has 90 miles of bike paths and 1,000 bike parking racks and locker spaces.
There is bicycle parking at the Schaumburg Metra station and Northwest Transportation Center, a community-based bicycle club and links with each of the village's neighbors throughout the Chicago region.
