Scouting Schaumburg at Rolling Meadows
Schaumburg (2-0) at Rolling Meadows (1-1)
When: 7:30 p.m. today at Robert A. Hoese Athletic Field
Last week: Schaumburg d. Buffalo Grove 28-6; Meadows lost to Palatine 28-12
Outlook: Playing Schaumburg, the top-ranked team in 8A by The Associated Press, is tough enough. Making it tougher for Meadows is it will be without RB Garrett Peterson (mild concussion), WR-DB Artie Checchin (knee, ankle), NT John Garcia (separated shoulder) and DB Bryan Davia (leg). "If I didn't have to play them I'd be a big fan," joked Meadows coach Doug Millsaps, whose team had 6 turnovers last week. "They're fundamentally sound, they play hard, they have great skills and they have the ability to break it at any point. Their defensive line is outstanding." And the Saxons' defense had a second straight strong effort - with solid play from Dru Richardson and Johnny Kirk - to keep feeding the ball to RB Shepard Little (575 yards) and QB Mark Iannotti and crew. They will also be at full strength upfront after Kyle Pollock missed last week because of illness and Bill Tomaszewski was out injured the first two weeks. "The good news is we've developed depth at a position where ordinarily depth is a question-mark," said Schaumburg coach Mark Stilling. Schaumburg looks for its first 3-0 start since it won its first five in 2006 and leads the series 17-14.
