Glenbard South keeps league streak intact

The Glenbard South softball parents whiled away the time during Thursday’s game totaling the Raiders’ consecutive conference victories.

The streak stands at 38 straight league wins over nearly three full seasons between the now-defunct Western Sun and the Raiders’ first year in the Metro Suburban.

Glenbard South (21-5, 12-0) completed another unbeaten conference season with Thursday’s 10-4 victory against Illiana Christian in Glen Ellyn.

“I’ve been blessed with great players,” Raiders coach Julie Fonda said, “and they executed when they needed to. Two tough teams in Riverside-Brookfield and Elmwood Park. They did what they needed to do and took care of the rest to take it undefeated. It was a goal that they set, so they accomplished it.”

Jess Wilkes (15-3) earned the victory in the pitcher’s circle.

Hannah Davey went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a triple, and catcher Jackie Wrona was 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and a double.

The Raiders open Class 3A regional play at home Tuesday against Chicago Noble Street Charter.
