MHS yearbook honored:The 2009 Mundelein High School yearbook, Obelisk, recently received a first place award in a national yearbook competition sponsored by the American Scholastic Press Association, the school announced Monday. The competition featured thousands of schools from across the country. It judged the yearbooks on content, photography, theme and other subjects.Political debate in Grayslake:League of Women Voters of Lake County, the Daily Herald and Grayslake High School District 127 will host a debate featuring congressional and state candidates seeking office in the February primary. The event will be at 2 p.m. on Jan. 10, at Grayslake Central High School's auditorium, 400 N. Lake St. Expected are all six candidates in the 8th Congressional District's Republican primary: Dirk Beveridge, John Dawson, Christopher Geissler, Maria Rodriguez, Gregory Jacobs and Joe Walsh. Democrat primary write-in candidate Jonathan Farnick is expected, but officials said it's not known if incumbent Melissa Bean will be present. The 8th Congressional District covers all or parts of Lake, McHenry and Cook counties. Also expected at the event are state Rep. Sandy Cole and challenger Paul Mitchell, the Republican primary candidates for the 62nd District state representative seat serving the Grayslake area. Democrat Rich Voltair was not invited because he doesn't have primary competition in the 62nd District.
