Lower Fox River declared no-wake zone

Fox Waterway Agency officials in Fox Lake announced Friday the lower Fox River - between the Algonquin Dam in Algonquin and the Stratton-Bolger Lock and Dam in McHenry - has been declared no-wake due to heavy rainfall this week.

They said the Fox River in Wisconsin experienced heavy rainfall overnight, and that water will flow south to the Chain O' Lakes and Fox River in the next few days. The restrictions were put in place because of rainfall totals in Illinois and water heights on the lower river.

There are no restrictions for the upper river and the Chain. No-wake means boats are not allowed to travel faster than 5 mph. Boaters should be aware of floating debris and other high water obstructions for the next couple of weeks. Violators of no-wake or other boating restrictions during a flood or overflow event can be fined up to $500.

Specific information regarding the water levels on the rivers can be found at the Fox Waterway Agency website at foxwaterway.org.
