Glenbard South routs Illiana Christian
Glenbard South’s defense held Illiana Christian to just 2 field goals and forced 37 turnovers in a 64-13 girls basketball victory Friday in Glen Ellyn.
“They rebounded from Tuesday,” Raiders coach Julie Fonda said of a conference loss at Timothy Christian. “They shot 22 percent from the field, so that kind of explains that, and I think today we were much better. We had a lot of opportunities. I thought we moved the ball well offensively, and defensively we tiered it, went hard press, then kind of pulled it back, then went to a half-court press. They executed really well.”
Tomei Ball scored 19 points for the Raiders (15-5, 6-1 Metro Suburban Conference), and Stefi Bazigos added 16.
The Raiders started slowly, taking a 12-2 lead late in the first quarter on sophomore Alex LaPonte’s 3-pointer. The shots started falling more often in a 22-point second quarter. The Vikings didn’t score from the field until the 7:04 mark of the fourth quarter.
